It is always a treat to have camp alumni stop by to visit.  Yesterday, July 8, we had a wonderful visit with Will Miller.  Will was on a business trip in this area with his employer, Phonetree, which specializes in medical software.  Will was originally from Knoxville, TN and was a camper for six summers and a counselor one summer.  Will and his wife, Kenzie, now live in Winston-Salem, NC.  Their two sons, Trey and Duncan, were also Alpine Campers.  Trey is in his 4th year at UVA and Duncan will be a sophomore this fall at the Naval Academy.  Will has two nephews at Alpine this summer.  They are Ian and Cameron Bush from Appleton, WI.  Ian is on Work Crew and Cameron is a first year chief.  This is Ian’s 10th summer and Cameron’s 8th summer at camp.

Will says he still recalls with fondness his first summer as a camper, living in Longbow cabin with John Gilbert as his counselor.  He attributes his faith in Christ to his counselors who nurtured him and provided a strong moral compass for him during those many summers on Lookout Mountain.  Will and his family have a long history with Alpine Camp, and it was such a treat to have him back on the mountain.

Dear Alpine Family,
Welcome, and thanks for reading our news!  We hope that you enjoy seeing the photos and news posts as much as we enjoy sharing them with you.  The website (www.alpinecamp.com) is the easiest way to stay up-to-date and the place to find almost everything you need.  However, there are many other exciting options available for keeping in touch online.  Today we’re excited to remind you about two of camp’s newest ways to be connected: The Alpine Podcast and Alpine on Twitter.
For those of you who use iTunes with either an iPod or another personal mp3 player, the Alpine Podcast is an easy way to find audio recordings of many things that go on at Camp.  Currently you can find recordings of the three meal blessings along with several of Camp Minister Shawn Slate’s sermons from this summer.  There are also recordings of a number of Alpine’s favorite hymns sung and recorded right here at Camp on Lookout Mountain.  It’s a great way to experience Camp when you can’t be here, and best of all, it’s free!
To subscribe to our podcast, open iTunes, and in the menu bar on the left of the page click on iTunes Store.  When the Store opens, look in the upper right hand corner of the window, where you’ll find a small text bubble labelled Search iTunes Store.  Type in “Alpine Podcast for Boys” and hit enter.  iTunes will take you to a new page, on which the icon for the Alpine Podcast will appear in a small pane at the top of the page. Click on the picture (a small black and white photo with a pine tree outline).  You’ll be taken to a new page which is specific to the Alpine Podcast. At the bottom of the pane, in the white section, you’ll see a list of all the items we’ve shared – hymns, Camp Songs, Sunday sermons, and eventually maybe interviews and camp stories.  If you click “subscribe,” the feed will be added to your library and everytime we add something new it will automatically appear in your iTunes library.
Another great way to connect to camp is to follow Alpine on Twitter.  Twitter is a nano-blogging site, which is techno-code for short news updates sent directly to your computer or cell phone.  Twitter is safe, free, and easy to use, and you cannot be spammed because you control whose messages you receive.  If you have a twitter account, sign in, and then in the menu bar at the top of the page click the link that says Find People. On the next page, type “alpinecamp” into the menu box and click search.  It should turn up a result for alpine camp – Glenn Breazeale.  Click on the blue “alpinecamp” and that will take you to Glenn’s account. On his page, under the picture, there is a box that says “follow.”  Click that button and you’ll begin receiving Alpine’s updates!  To get the updates on your cell phone, you’ll need to follow Twitter’s directions to set up your device.  If you don’t choose to set up your phone, you can always see the updates by logging in on your computer.  Twitter is a way for us to share with you little tidbits from the day at Camp as well as off-season reminders about deadlines and showings.  We hope you’ll find it useful if you choose to follow.
As ever, if you have any questions about these two online options, please do not hesitate to email me at support@alpinecamp.com or call me at 256-634-4404.  I’m here to troubleshoot for you and make your online Alpine experience as simple and painless as possible, and I’d love to help you with anything you need.  Be well, and keep in touch!
