Glenn and Carter Breazeale are second generation directors at Alpine and they make their home at Alpine year round. They are both graduates of the University of Mississippi. Glenn completed his Masters of Accountancy and is a non-practicing Certified Public Accountant while Carter finished with a Bachelors in Art Education.
Like his own father, Glenn grew up as a camper at Alpine for six summers, coming from Jackson, MS each summer. He has served on staff at Alpine for 11 summers, the last six working full time for camp as Assistant Director and now Director. Prior to that he gained experience serving in various capacities including cabin counselor, Head Counselor, Head of Project Adventure (Ropes course), Horseback instructor, and Program Director. Glenn's love of camping and his desire to preserve the traditions of Alpine drew him back to camp to offer young boys the same opportunities he experienced. He met and fell in love with Carter during a Square Dance with Camp DeSoto.
Carter grew up as one of the few girls at Alpine. She spent eleven summers at neighboring Camp DeSoto for Girls, the last three on staff including her final summer as Assistant Program Director. Carter brings unmatched fun and creativity to camp and believes strongly in carrying out the mission of camp that was begun by her family over 50 years ago. As a mom she understands a mother's unique concerns for her children. She loves to talk with other moms who have special questions about their sons.
Carter and Glenn have twin girls who love living at camp year round and look forward to the summer when all their “big brothers” come back.
“Mr. and Mrs. O” – as they are affectionately know to generations of campers – make their home at Alpine in Mentone, Alabama, and Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. They have two daughters, Mrs. Toy Harmon and Mrs. Carter Breazeale, both of whom remain closely involved with the camp.
Mr. O is a native of Jackson, MS and spent his summers on Lookout Mountain as a child. Two years after graduation from the University of Mississippi he realized his dream of starting a Christian camp, opening Alpine Camp for Boys in June of 1959. Mr. O has been at Alpine every summer since, serving as Director until 2006. He remains closely involved with the camp.
Mrs. O has been involved in virtually every aspect of Alpine for many years, ensuring a pursuit of excellence in all that happens at camp. She is a graduate of Newcomb College at Tulane University and also holds a Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Having also grown up in Jackson, MS, she spent a number of summers on staff with Camp Desoto for Girls prior to marrying Mr. O.
Lee “Flop” Ozier works as our Junior Camp Program Director. Flop has been a welcome fixture at Alpine for over 25 of Alpine’s 50 summers (he started very young!). He began his time at Alpine as a counselor while an undergrad at Mississippi State. Since then he has worked in many different capacities with over 15 summers of experience as Program Director.
Flop brings a wealth of knowledge and creativity to our Junior Camp program. He holds a counseling degree from Reformed Theological Seminary and has worked in teaching, counseling, and administration for the McCallie School and Covenant College in Chattanooga. He currently serves as a counselor at Jackson Preparatory School in Jackson, MS. Flop and his wife, Ramona, have one son who is a veteran Alpine camper.
Bill “Tree” Jamieson is our First Term Program Director and an Alpine legend. He has been at Alpine longer than anyone else besides Mr. and Mrs. O – nearly 30 summers. As he tells it, “I came so close to selling dictionaries in West Virginia that first summer.” Providentially, however, a friend sat him down with a brochure for Alpine Camp and he signed on with Mr. O at the last minute. The rest is history.
Tree has been a professional teacher for many years, teaching 7th and 8th grade English at the McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN. He has a rare gift for relating to campers and counselors.
Roderick Russ is our newest Program Director, which is to say he’s “only” been around since 1992. He has worked as a counselor, administrative assistant, horseback instructor, Head Counselor, and now as the Second Term Program Director. Roderick brings incredible enthusiasm to the program (he has more energy than anyone we’ve ever met!).
Roderick teaches History to 7th and 8th Graders at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, TN where he also coaches track, cross country, and ultimate frisbee. His strongest qualification come from his home where he and his wife, Tricia, are successfully raising three boys and a little girl, all between the ages of 9 and 1!
